Any time some one has complained to me about cramps or a headache or just about anything that is wrong with them my response is generally “drink some water, you’ll feel better”. We are all aware that the human body is made up of mostly water; around 60%. It only makes sense that it needs that much water to function properly. There are so many benefits to drinking water that I could talk about it all day, but I will touch on some main ones that I think are EXTRA important.
HELPS TO CLEANSE THE BODY
Your body, as I stated above, needs water to function properly. When your organs are properly hydrated then the kidneys can focus on their job of ridding the body of toxins. If for whatever reason you don’t drink enough water than the toxins will build up and affect your immune system, causing more sickness
Add ½ a sliced lemon to a tall glass of water to help flush out the toxins
HELPS TO KEEP YOUR BOWELS REGULAR
If you have ever been constipated, you know that it is a painful experience. Constipation is a sign of dehydration. When your body is dehydrated, it will draw water from one place, your colon, to help in another place, your vital organs. In doing so, the moisture that is in your poop is also drawn out, making it hard and compact. Drinking enough water everyday ensure that things run more smoothly (no pun intended).
Add 3 dried prunes to a large glass of water and let it sit over night. Warm up the water in the morning and drink as a tea.
HELPS WITH WEIGHT LOSS
Technically drinking water will not make you lose weight. However, it will save you from making other beverage choices like juice and soda which are high in sugar. Water will also help to make you feel full sooner because it leaves less room in your stomach for food to fill. I have read that if you drink 2 cups of water right before you eat that you will not eat as much.
Add 1 inch slice of ginger & 1 cup of frozen mango to 2L of water. Let sit 30 mins and then enjoy
PREVENTS MENSTRUAL CRAMPS
Every woman knows the joys of having their periods. We get cramps, bloating, mood swings, and cravings. These things SUCK. Cramps are usually caused by contracting muscle spasms. I know it sounds funny, but the more water you drink the less likely your body is to retain water. When our bodies retain water, we suffer from bloating, which brings on our cramps. MORE WATER = LESS CRAMPS.
Add a slice of ginger to a chamomile tea to relieve pain and inflammation
INCREASES ENERGY & RELIEVES FATIGUE
We have all been there, woke up early after a late night. Still feeling weary and tired; lack any energy to get up and do something productive. You wont be surprised to know that fatigue is one of the first signs of dehydration. It causes a drop in blood volume, making the heart have to work even harder to disperse your20 blood to your extremities.
Add 1 lemon, 1 orange, 5 strawberries, ½ cucumber (all sliced), ¼ cup blackberries, and ¼ cup blueberries to 2L of water. Let sit for 30mins. ENJOY!!
HELPS TO REDUCE HEADACHES
Once again, headaches are a sign of dehydration (can you see the trend here?). they also can be brought on from caffeine withdrawals. Its important to avoid caffeine your body becomes dependant on it cause headaches due to the lack of it. Think of your mom without her morning coffee… that’s not a fun morning. If your thing is more carbonated beverages, try club soda with lemon to curb your craving or even a piece of dark chocolate.
Add 1 tsp cayenne pepper to a glass of water. This will help to improve circulation and dilute blood vessels
IMPROVES SKIN COMPLEXION
Our skin is the largest of all our organs, and of course it also needs water ti function properly. If it becomes dehydrated it begins to look tight, dry, and flaky. Dry skin is also prone to wrinkles. Drinking enough water every day will give your skin a radiant glow and can even help with alments such as acne.
Add 2 sliced lemons, ½ a cucumber and 10-12 mint leaves to 2L of water. Let sit for 30min. ENJOY
Before I finish up, I would like to touch on what I believe is the proper amount of water that a person should drink daily. Plenty of people will say 8 eight ounce glasses of water would be sufficant, but me… no way honey!! Try half your body weight in ounces. So for me: 250 ÷ 2 = 125oz. there are 8 ounces in 250mL of water so, 125 ÷ 8 = 15.6 cups of water. That is about 4L or 1 gallon every single day. I know it sounds like a lot of water, but when you stop drinking other things like soda and juice it gets much easier.
